I run by the river at least once a week. It is such as amazing destination and it's so close to campus that you can be there in minutes.
Mississippi Queen tours are wonderful and being at the Riverside Park is spectacular.
UW-L has an amazing community of people all passionate about their involvement and studies. I think one of the greatest things about UWL are the people.
There is a place for everyone to find their fit and not only be comfortable, but excel at what ever it is they do best!

During finals week last fall, a couple of my friends and I were studying in an empty classroom in Centennial Hall. We never got kicked out of the room, so we stayed until 4am watching movies on the big projectors and blaring music through the sound system. Needless to say we got a lot of studying done.
My favorite thing about UWL is the opportunity to be involved in so many clubs and activities. I was really involved in high school, so it was great to continue that in college too.

Apply for scholarship, its free money. Who doesn't like free money? Join a student organization and be involved. They add to your college experience, allow you to express your ideas, meet your peers with similar interests.
The best thing about UW-L in my opinion is the people that it's made up of. The students are very friendly and always open to meet someone new. The professors encourage you to ask them for help and are great resources that turn into a friendship rather than a typical student-teacher relationship. UW-L is a special place you will not find anywhere else. Welcome to the Promise Land.

A spoon - you'd get to taste all sorts of delicious things all the time, like cereal and ice cream. Plus, if you've ever read the children's book entitled "Spoon," how could you not love spoons?
The sense of community. I'm a huge sucker for warm, fuzzy feelings.
Personally, I have learned so much from going to La Crosse. Its amazing how much it has changed me for the better. It has built so much confidence in myself that it has changed me into a better person all around
One of the best parts for me attending UWL is the atmosphere. I love the openness and that fact that over 10,000 students go here. I love the bluffs too. I was always an outdoors kind of guy so it has always been one of my priorities to stay in the wild.

Whenever I go to a friend's house I always bring my pillows, even if I don't plan on staying over I know that plans can change and I always need to be ready. I can't sleep without them.
How close everyone is. I can not make it from one class to the next without seeing at least 3 people I know. It really makes UWL feel like a safe and inviting place to be.

Be yourself and get involved. Joining any kind of organization or group will help you meet new people which can help the transition into the new campus so much better. Staying true to yourself throughout your time on campus will enable you to look back on all of your experiences and continue moving forward.
How friendly people are. There are always smiling faces, people yelling at their friends to catch up on the way to class, and an all-around cheerful environment. UW-L is truly a community that everyone who attends can see and feel.
One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is take afternoon trips downtown. For example, see a movie at The Riv, get ice cream at The Pearl, and walk along the waterfront with friends.
The best part about attending UW-L is the community here. Almost any place I go on campus, I will see someone I know, whether I had a class with that person, or they are a close friend of mine, I almost always know someone. The feeling of community here is so great, and it definitely helps when being away from home.
My favorite part without a doubt is the camaraderie. The bonds formed as a Vanguard over sharing our love for UW-L are quite awesome. Also the rugbies.
I love the environment at UW-L. Campus life has a friendly, community vibe about it that I never experienced at any other school I toured.
I was surprised about how involved you could be. At one point I realized that I couldn't be apart of every organization or every group that I wanted to because there was not enough time in the day! It just surprised me how many options there were to be a part of around campus.
I think that the people, here at UW-L, are amazing. It's a super friendly atmosphere here. I am able to just walk out of my residence hall and say hi to many people as I walk to class. The people are friendly and nice and you are able to find individuals that you can relate to really well. Not only does that account for students but also teachers. I feel like the teachers here really want you to succeed and do well in school, so much that they push you to come in and talk to them. I can honestly say that I have not had a teacher I didn't appreciate!
There is always, always, always something to do. From going on a bluff hike to cheering on your friends in their intramural championship game, you will never be bored.
The overall feel of the campus and community. Everyone is active and friendly, on and off of campus. Combining the people with the bluffs, river, hiking trails, and historical downtown, you can't find a better university.
UWL has encouraged me to study and learn about things that I love. This allows me to passionately work towards my dreams within my major. UWL sees that you are a person, not just another student.
The large school opportunities within this smaller campus really amaze me. There are so many offices and organizations at UWL that you would expect to only find at larger universities.
No one really cares about that extra layer of mascara you just applied or the brand of the black socks you're wearing up to your shins. Just be kind to others and good things will come your way.
This college gives me the "bang for my buck".
A springform cake pan! I've got a solid base, I have a good understanding now of my core values and who I am, but I can always be open or more closed off depending on the situation!
I think that our university is really unique in the degree to which it recognizes the student body as being made up of individuals. I have never felt like I was just a number; I have always been treated as a student whose academic and personal pursuits matter. for the well being of the institution.
The professors and opportunities for professional development are wonderful, get to know your professors and when a special opportunity comes your way take it. Try to get involved in organizations outside of your comfort zone, these are the ways I have found my influence and ambitions.
The best part about attending UWL is seeing the bluffs when traveling to La Crosse and knowing you are not too far from home. The community and setting of UWL welcomes students away from home and provides not only wonderful education, but adventure and comfort all in one.
Ballroom dancing, it was an ESS 100 Course I took my freshman year. Loads of fun, and I got to learn some gnarly dance moves.
The overall community and area. Everybody here on campus and surrounding are such friendly fun people. I always feel welcome wherever I go. The nature trails and vast outdoor recreation options are amazing here and I can always find something to do.

The best part about attending UW-L is that whether you live on campus or off campus it feels like home. I never am afraid to walk around campus alone because of the great community feel.
I don't know about weird, but I am probably the klutziest person I know. If there is a way to hurt myself doing something, it will happen. Everyday activities are hazards!
The best part for me has been all the relationships I have been able to make! I have been able to make connections with not only peers, but also professors, staff members, and community members that I know will be great resources for me even after graduation!
My dad, he immigrated from Germany and worked his tail off his whole life just to provide for my siblings and I. He didn't always have a taste of "The American Dream" but he made sure we did.
The small, tight-knit community. You can't walk anywhere on campus without seeing someone you know!
An iron because I am somewhat mellow until you plug me in and get me fired up about something I am passionate about (like UW-L). Then I'm hot and make a big impression on others.
The best part about attending UW-La Crosse is the close-knit campus community. You continually get to meet new people, yet see familiar faces every day, while you attend classes and work with the amazing faculty and staff.
I like Whitney Center because everyone goes there, there is always someone to say hi to, and I've had some great conversations and fun times over meals there
The people! I love the friendliness, activeness, and diversity this campus has to offer.
In the mornings, while getting ready, I like to dance around to Beyonce in my underwear. As far as I know, no one has seen me yet!
The people. I wish I could explain the sense of community there is on UW-L's campus, but words wouldn't do it justice. I enjoy walking from class to class just to be able to see my friends around every corner.
Attending UW-L has been such an eye opening experience for me. I know am on a career path that I otherwise wouldn't have known about and I am a more well rounded person now than I was when I first came to UW-L.
The best part about attending UWL has to be the campus/size of the University. It is so beautiful to just walk around campus and take in everything that it has to offer. I love walking across campus because you will always see someone that you know and see someone that you have never seen before.
Working with charity foundations and traveling with them to fulfill the immediate needs of others. That would make me so happy.
The best part about being at UWL is having familiar faces to say hello to on the way to class. This includes friends, advisers, and even professors.
The interconnectivity between everyone you meet. It's amazing how small of a world this is!
The size of UW-La Crosse makes it very easy to make friends and see them on a daily basis. Also, people aren't in as much of a rush because it's a about a 7 minute walk from one end of campus to the other. As a freshman it was very comforting knowing I could ask questions and receive a friendly answer from anyone around me.
My favorite part of being a Vanguard is getting an opportunity to show off the school that really made me who I am. Also, I LOVE making my tours laugh. If you are on my tour, please do your best to throw in some chuckles here and there to make my day.
There is an overwhelming sense of support and community on our campus. I have made friends in just about every class I have taken at La Crosse, and I can honestly say that I have felt comfortable talking to every one of my professors about anything I had questions on or needed help with.
I love Disney princesses and I only eat fruit snacks 2 bags at a time.
How active and kind everyone around campus is. Also, how it’s not to big but not too small either.
At the beginning of my sophomore year, there was a hypnotist that came to UW-L as a part of New Student Orientation programs. I was chosen to be hypd get hypnotized.
“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” Marie Curie
The community here at UW-L. The faculty have a genuine care for each and every student and make an obvious investment in your future. The student population is diverse and involved so it's impossible to not find a place or group that makes you feel at home. Those things combined make the community here at UW-L truly amazing.
