Funeral Leave Policy
All permanent or project classified and unclassified employees are paid for up to three days of accumulated sick leave for the death in the immediate family, which includes you or your spouses immediate family; your spouse or your spouse equivalent, stepchildren, children or their spouses; a person for whom you are a guardian; foster parents and various other family members. You may also take up to four days sick leave for the travel time to and from the funeral.
WEAC, UPQHC, WSP, Engineering, and WPEC contracts limit the amount of time to one day for the following relatives; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, or cousins of the employee or spouse
WSEU contracts limit its members to one day for the funeral of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children, god-parents of the employee or spouse.
All union contracts specify that unless the funeral is delayed for any reason, the bereavement leave must be used within seven days.
Immediately notify your supervisor of your need to take funeral leave and the dates you will be using. When you turn in your time sheet/leave statement for that period, you will report the time under sick leave. No other documentation is necessary.
