What is Qualtrics?
Qualtrics is web based survey software that is currently being
used by UW-La Crosse. Students, faculty, and staff are able to use Qualtrics for academic projects and other university business.
Where do I go for help using Qualtrics?
After logging into Qualtrics you can access an extensive
online help section by clicking the Help and Tutorials link
at the top of the screen to access
Qualtrics
University. If you need any additional
assistance please contact the Eagle Help Desk.
How do students access Qualtrics?
Before a student can use Qualtrics a faculty or staff member
must request an account on their behalf. To request an
account for a student (or students) click the Student
Accounts link on the left hand side of the Qualtrics
login screen at
www.uwlax.edu/surveys and follow the on screen
directions.
How do faculty and staff access Qualtrics?
Faculty and staff members are able to login to Qualtrics at
www.uwlax.edu/surveys
to begin using the system. No setup is required
beforehand, faculty and staff are able to login at any time.
If you have any problems logging in please contact the Eagle Help Desk at (608) 785-8774 or
helpdesk@uwlax.edu.
Are students limited at all when using Qualtrics?
Qualtrics is a sophisticated tool that allows for different levels of access for each individual.
By default, faculty and staff have very few restrictions
placed on their accounts. Students are allowed very
broad access to all of the features in Qualtrics, but are
more limited than faculty and staff. Most notably,
students cannot send more than 1000 survey invitations to a
survey sample through Qualtrics. If a student needs
their permissions in Qualtrics modified to complete their
project the student's faculty advisor should contact the Eagle Help Desk on behalf of the student to see if permission
changes are able to be made to meet the student's needs.
Can groups work together on a single survey?
Yes, providing each person is able to access Qualtrics.
They can then create surveys and share them amongst
themselves to work collaboratively. To share a survey
click the Collaborate button to the right of the survey from
within Qualtrics.

Can you give someone a copy of your survey
instead of collaborating?
Yes, providing each person is able to access Qualtrics.
You can create a survey and may choose to send a copy to
someone else. To copy a survey, click the Copy button to
the right of the survey from within Qualtrics.
Note: When copying surveys in Qualtrics, you
will have to select to Copy to: Another User Account.
Usernames in Qualtrics are the other user's email address
followed by #uwlax (e.g.
last.firs@uwlax.edu#uwlax). It will verify
that it is a valid username before you click Copy. See
example below.

Is there a way to preview my survey?
You can see what your survey is going to look like to
respondents by choosing “Preview Survey” from the survey
editor.
Note: Before distributing your survey, you
will want to delete any data that have accumulated from
previewing/testing the survey instrument. To do this, click
on “View Results” on the top row of tabs and then select
“Edit Results.” Test data can be identified by the phrase
“Survey Preview” in the “Respondent” column. To remove
these cases, click the check boxes next to them and click
the “Delete” button.
How do I distribute my survey?
Surveys on Qualtrics can be distributed using the Qualtrics
Mailer or by sharing a generic link on a website or in
another format such as email. Surveys sent out using the Qualtrics
Mailer can be configured to allow each recipient to complete the
survey only once (each link sent using the Qualtrics Mailer
is unique to the individual receiving it). This allows
to users to complete a survey if they exit it without
finishing it and will not allow them to take it more than
once. The generic link can be given to anyone and
taken as many times as needed.
