Throwback Thursday – 2007 MVAC NEH Summer Institute for Teachers

MVAC NEH Aztalan

Throwback Thursday - In 2007 MVAC offered its first of five National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institutes for Teachers entitled Touch the Past: Archaeology of the Upper Mississippi River Valley.  It shared the story of the past 12,000 years of human history with a group of 23 enthusiastic K-12 educators from across the United States.  The Institute covered the process of archaeological discovery, the information learned to date about the major cultures of the Upper Mississippi River Valley and strategies for including archaeology in the participants’ classrooms. The Institute incorporated four field trips including this outing to an outpost of the Mississippian culture in Wisconsin at Aztalan State Park.
