This year’s Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center Artifact Show will help tell the story of the Coulee Region’s long history.

This year’s Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center Artifact Show will include a flintknapping demonstration, book-signings with area authors and plenty of artifacts that help tell the story of the Coulee Region’s long history. The annual show will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Valley View Mall. Throughout the day, local collectors will display their personal artifact collections, and MVAC staff will share artifacts recovered from local excavations. Archaeologists will also be on hand to answer questions. Area residents are encouraged to bring their own artifacts for help with identification. Area resident Robert Keiper will lead a demonstration of how arrowheads and other edged stone tools are made through flinknapping from 11 a.m.-noon. Geri Schrab and Robert “Ernie” Boszhardt, co-authors of “Hidden Thunder: Rock Art of the Upper Midwest,” will sign books from noon-3 p.m. Susan Steele, author of “Alzheimer's, Archaeology, and the Armed Forces,” will also sign books throughout the day. The annual show is free and open to the public. Call MVAC at 608.785.8454 or email jdowiasch@uwlax.edu to display artifacts. Visitors are welcome to visit the MVAC, located in the archaeology building at UW-La Crosse, throughout the year.
