Day will be spent surveying local fields as part of MVAC's celebration of Wisconsin Archaeology Month.
Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center is looking for volunteers to help survey local fields to find unreported archaeology sites from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, May 6.
The survey is part of MVAC’s celebration of Wisconsin Archaeology Month. Surveys give archaeologists greater awareness of local archaeological resources and help establish sites for future digs. The survey is free and open to the public. No experience is necessary. Advanced registration is required.
The day will begin with an introduction at the archaeology laboratory at UW-La Crosse, followed by a field survey at local fields near La Crosse. Participants will end the day back at the lab to wash the recovered artifacts and learn more about their history. The number of participants is limited, so register early. Children may participate if accompanied by an adult. Call MVAC at 608.785.8454 or email jdowiasch@uwlax.edu to register.
