Communication Studies
Undergraduate research
The Department of Communication Studies is committed to undergraduate research. Students majoring in Communication Studies conduct scholarly and applied research. The Department's dedication to research is evident in its Writing-in-the-Major Program. All CST majors are required to complete CST 499: Senior Project in Communication Studies, which allows students to design, conduct, and present their own professional-quality research project.
Writing in the Major Program
The CST Writing-in-the-Major Program:
- Develops students' awareness that effective writing is an essential requirement of communication intensive careers.
- Motivates students to take ownership of and pride in their writing.
- Encourages students to use writing as an integral part of their learning process by including writing-to-learn experiences in the program.
- Is a developmental process in which students achieve entry level professional writing competency during their completion of the CST major.

Senior Projects
All CST majors complete CST 499: Senior Project in Communication Studies, which allows students to design, conduct, and present their own professional-quality research project.
