The Department of Music plays a significant educational role in the College of Liberal Studies and in the School of Arts and Communications. One of the many outstanding academic departments at UW-La Crosse, the Department currently serves approximately 100 undergraduate majors and minors.
We offer a curriculum that is inclusive, creative and challenging. Students participating in music classes, studios and ensembles gain valuable skills that prepare them for a variety of post-graduate professional and scholarly pursuits.
Music Faculty and staff members are dedicated to excellence in teaching and performing. Our talented faculty is passionate about providing artistic performance opportunities.
Facilities
The music department has excellent facilities for rehearsing, performing and recording, as well as classroom instruction. We have large acoustically treated instrumental and choral rehearsal rooms, over twenty practice rooms equipped with grand pianos and new Yamaha P-22 pianos, and a newly remodeled recital hall. The acoustically superb 235-seat Annett Recital Hall houses a 7-foot Steinway Grand Piano, 9-foot Baldwin Grand Piano, a two-manual harpsichord and state of the art digital recording equipment.
Ensembles rehearse in two large, acoustically treated halls, fully furnished with reference grade audio systems and digital classroom technology.
Students and faculty have full access to the Music Listening Resource Center which furnishes a robust library of digital and analog recordings including access to the Naxos online music library and an archive of student, faculty, and guest performances. The Resource Center also includes nine Mac based MIDI workstations with music and audio software tools such as Cubase, Finale, Garage Band, Band-in-a-Box, and Practica Musica.
Classrooms are equipped with multimedia presentation and studio quality sound systems to create a fully immersive learning experience.
The UWL Music Department is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
