Q: Do students have to be Music majors or minors to participate in UWL music ensembles?
A: No, all of our ensembles are open to current UWL students. However, each ensemble has its own entrance/audition requirements. Contact the conductors of each ensemble for more specific information.
Q:What are the requirements to be accepted as a Music major or minor at UWL?
A: In most cases, students must first be accepted by the University, through the Admissions Office. Acceptance into the Music Department is through live audition, although recorded auditions are permitted with prior permission from the Department. Please refer to the audition information section on the Music Department website for specific audition requirements.
Prospective students not initially admitted to UWL may be eligible for “Special Talent” consideration. Please contact individual ensemble directors or the Music Department chairperson for more information.
Q: Does the UWL Music Department give scholarships to music students?
A: Yes, the Music Department offers several scholarships to current and incoming Music majors and minors, through audition. Specific areas such as Jazz Studies , piano and Orchestra have scholarship opportunities for non-Music majors and minors. Each area has its own requirements. Please contact Music Directors for more specific information.
Q: What are some of the career options available to me with a music or music education major from UWL?

Q: Why are UWL Choral, Instrumental, and General Music Emphasis degrees five-year programs?
A: Since UWL is a Liberal Arts institution, the University has course requirements that allow its students to have many general, academic experiences. Music Education students also have the opportunity to observe and teach, in area school classrooms/rehearsal rooms, through three clinical experiences plus a semester of student teaching.
Q: Does the Music Department have instruments available for ensemble members?
A: Yes, the Department has a wide array of woodwind, brass, percussion and string instruments, for use by ensemble members without a rental fee. Instrumental storage lockers are available at a minimal rental fee.
