Prestigious Internship Opportunities
Students who are accepted to the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse Medical Dosimetry program are offered prestigious clinical opportunities during the internship year from some of the most reputable institutions in the profession. Although our program is affiliated with nearly 100 internship sites at any given time, we typically only place students at ~30 facilities each cohort year. Track A applicants often use their own employer as an affiliate internship site. Part-time Track A can only use their current employer as an internship site.
- Applicants: Not all sites will be available in a given year. If you are chosen to proceed to the interview phase, a list of available clinical sites will be provided to you. If you have concerns about whether specific clinical sites are going to be active for the upcoming academic year, please contact mdprogram@uwlax.edu.
State Authorization
The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) covers 49 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico. UWL does not require licensure to offer courses and clinicals in California.
Notice to Applicants about Internship
Employment: This is a full time, 16 month graduate program. During the 16 month program, the clinical internship portion takes place from January - December (12 months in length). During the clinical internship year, you will be in school 40 hours per week (didactic and clinical) in addition to homework in the evening and weekends. Therefore, working is not a viable option. Students who attempted working more than a few hours per day were unsuccessful.
- Note: there is a part-time option for Track A (Radiation Therapists) who will be working during the program but no more than 20 hours per week. Reach out to program officials for more details.
Criminal Background Check: You will be required to complete a criminal background check after accepting placement in the program. Please be aware that a felony charge may affect your ability to obtain clinical placements and/or sit for the board examination.
Immunizations: We respect that a student may elect to not receive immunizations for personal or medical reasons. Students who have a medical condition that precludes them from receiving immunizations may be asked to provide additional documentation from a medical provider. Clinical affiliates must comply with their organization's policy regarding immunizations and as such may decline a student without required immunizations or medical documentation. Students should be aware that this may impact options for clinical education experiences and progression through the medical dosimetry curriculum.
Institution Compliance: students must adhere to policies and requirements of the assigned clinical internship site. This may include policies specific to immunizations, drug screening, background checks, fingerprint screening, on-site search/inspection, etc.
