Solving the complex problems of the modern world works better when we bring a broad range of experiences, skills, and knowledge to the table. When we work together across differences with respect for one another and focus on finding the best solution, our solutions are more likely to work. That's why UWL has adopted Inclusive Excellence.

Learning in an environment intentionally designed to bring diversity into consideration does much more than just improve our awareness of diversity issues. Studies show that such environments enhance everyone's ability to think critically and to tackle complex problems.

Studies show that students who engage actively in diverse college environments are more satisfied with their college experience, possess stronger leadership skills, and are more likely to complete their degrees.

Student success at UWL reflects a commitment to preparing students for success in their professional and personal lives. Standard metrics of student success include persistence, 
retention, and graduation rates. However, other measurable and immeasurable outcomes  compose the goals of student success at UWL as the campus focuses on the whole student. High quality experiences and learning combine to help a student feel a sense of belonging to the campus and its students, staff, and faculty. UWL's mission states that the university provides "a challenging, dynamic, and diverse learning environment in which the entire university community is fully engaged in supporting student success."
