Eagle Mentoring Program (EMP)

A page within Access, Belonging, & Compliance

WHAT IS EMP?

EMP is a program that benefits second-year students, and has a focus on introducing students to career paths that require post graduate work. The program offers a variety of collaborative opportunities meant to foster academic success at UWL and to enhance opportunities for post graduate schooling and career readiness across a range of future career paths.  Throughout the experience, students will develop an appreciation and familiarity with writing, research, and communication methods, enriching their educational experiences.

EMP is also a great primer for those interested in UWL's TRIO McNair Scholars Program.

Interested students should apply to the program (see below) and be prepared to engage in a brief interview as part of the application.

Successful applicants will:

  • receive a small scholarship,
  • participate in a cultural enrichment program that includes exposure to graduate programs, and
  • take two 1-credit courses:
    • UWL 210 (fall semester): focused on understanding career readiness, and
    • UWL 211 (spring semester): focused on developing post graduate inquiry skills via completing a research proposal.

If selected, students are expected to make a full academic year commitment.

Advisory Board

The Eagle Mentoring Advisory Board consists of faculty, administrators, and staff members at UWL to lead, guide, and strengthen the direction of EMP  within the Division of Access, Belonging, & Compliance. This is done through three principal ways:

· Advise on high impact practice programs, drawing upon advisory members’ experiences and knowledge on retention programs;

· Serve as a bridge between the division and as liaisons within UWL's broader community, and sectors in which the Advisory Board members belong, and

· Guide and assist with the development of the program by providing feedback.
