To apply for undergraduate admission, follow the instructions below:
- The UW System application, available online at https://apply.wisconsin.edu.
- $25 Application Fee: Payable with a credit card at the same time you submit an online application.
- Academic Records: Official, certified, or attested transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary institutions attended. Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
- English Language Proficiency: Non-native English speakers must submit proof of English proficiency in order to be considered for admission. This can be demonstrated by:
- 73 TOEFL score. Our Institution Code is 1914
- 6.0 IELTS score
- 100 Duolingo English Test (DET) score
- 54 PTE score
- Completion of ELS Level 112
- Completion of WESLI Level 700
- Proof of Funding: Complete the 2025-26 Affidavit of Support and submit a current bank statement for the individual listed as your sponsor.
- Passport Copy: Submit a copy of photo page of your passport

Transfer

- Course Descriptions: For all post-secondary education taken outside the United States, school-issued course descriptions must also be submitted. This will allow us to review your courses for transfer credit.
- English Language Proficiency: Non-native English speakers must submit proof of English proficiency in order to be considered for admission. This can be demonstrated by:

Transfer Credit
An official credit evaluation is performed after you are admitted to the university.
Please review the Transfer Credit Policy for guidance on how your credits might transfer to UW-La Crosse, including information about Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Exam Program (CLEP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) credits. For questions about scheduling and academic advising, please consult the Academic Advising Center's list of frequently asked questions.
Foreign institutions must be recognized by the appropriate authority in the country, such as the Ministry of Education. Credits considered for transfer to UWL must have been earned at regionally accredited institutions, e.g., Higher Learning Commission. Courses must be similar in nature, level, and content to a course in our undergraduate curriculum and applicable to one of our academic programs. Continuing education courses, graduate-level courses, and courses that are remedial, technical, vocational, or doctrinal in nature are not transferable.

Exchange
We're glad that you will be joining us as an exchange student from one of our partner institutions!
- The UW System application, available online at https://apply.wisconsin.edu.
- Apply as a special/non-degree student
- Exchange students do not need to pay an application fee.
- Academic Records: Submit your university transcripts. Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. Please also provide a list of courses currently in progress on a separate document if they are not included on your transcript.
- Course Selection Form: Use the UWL course catalog or course timetable (when available) to select courses you would like to take during your time at UWL. Academic advisors will review your course selection and determine which courses you may or may not take based on availability and your prerequisites.
- Passport: Submit a copy of the photo page of your passport.
- Complete the UWL Background Information Form.

- DAAD with English level of B2 or better
- Proof of Funding: Complete the 2025-26 Exchange Student Affidavit of Support if you plan to enroll for one or both semesters of the 2024-2025 academic year.
All exchange students are required to live in on-campus housing. After you have been officially admitted as an exchange student, you will receive instructions on how to reserve housing.

Graduate
To apply for graduate admission, please follow the instructions below:
- UW System application, available online at https://apply.wisconsin.edu.
- $56 Application Fee: Payable with a credit card at the same time you submit an online application.
- Academic Records: Official, certified, or attested transcripts and certificates from all post-secondary education. Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
- English Proficiency: Non-native English speakers must meet one of the following for admission:
- TOEFL score of at least 79 iBT or 550 pBT - Institution Code: 1914.
- IELTS score of at least 6.0.
- TOEFL and IELTS scores cannot be more than 2 years old.
- 110 Duolingo English Test (DET) score
- 60 PTE score

- A bachelor’s or higher degree from UWL or another approved institution where English is the sole language of instruction may also fulfill this requirement.
- Degree must be earned within two years of your expected enrollment at UWL.
- The applicant must have attended the institution for a minimum of 2 years.
