General Information
Academic Initiatives is differential tuition that was implemented and approved in FY2010. Students pay this differential tuition to fund a variety of student-focused programs on campus that are centered around advising, diversity, internationalization and research. The Academic Initiative Oversight Committee is responsible for recommending budget allocations for programs funded through Academic Initiatives differential tuition. The following criteria is used when allocating budgets to the units: fiscal responsibility, advisory participation, contribution to cultural diversity, value to student body, quality of services provided, uniqueness of opportunities and services and history of programmatic, fiscal, advising, stability; and assessment outcomes. Each funded unit is responsible for presenting and reporting on their budget each fall to the committee, and any changes to the approved budget must go back through the committee process. Budgets are officially approved in November for the next fiscal year.
