Gamma Gives Back: Love and Legacy for Teddy

A student org event from Gamma Sigma Sigma - Beta Delta

Gamma Gives Back: Love and Legacy for Teddy

On April 23, 2025, Gamma Sigma Sigma, will be hosting the first ever Gamma Gives Back; Love and Legacy for Teddy fundraiser. This event is developed on behalf of Teddy’s Heart; AED Funding and Training Foundation and in honor of Teddy Dowdle. Teddy was born with a congenital heart defect in his bicuspid aortic valve. Although Teddy was cleared to play basketball, he was 22 when he passed away at a park in the presence of family and friends. He suffered from unexpected cardiac arrest and first responders were unable to resuscitate without access to an automated external defibrillator.

The foundation fights for awareness around the subject of AEDs in accessible, public locations. The goal of the foundation is to install Save Stations with Public Access Defibrillators. Successful implementation means better survival rates for individuals suffering from heart defects and sudden cardiac arrest. This initiative not only supports the individuals but first responders reporting to the scene and the families affected. When an AED is used properly, survival rates increase by 50%-74% according to the National Institutes of Health.

All proceeds from this event will go to Teddy's Heart Foundation. You will have the chance to win raffle baskets, enjoy baked goods, free succulents, and other fun games and activities. We hope to see you there and thank you for supporting this cause!
