UWL Concert Choir & Treble Chorus

Join UWL’s Concert Choir and Treble Chorus for a sophisticated evening of singing, led by ensemble conductors Dr. Christopher Hathaway and Dr. Kourtney Austin.

The Treble Chorus – directed by Dr. Kourtney Austin – opens with “We Are a Circle” by Rick Hamouris, a dynamic piece derivative of spiritual traditions driven rhythmically both through the timbre of the human voice as well as percussion. The program also includes titles such as “Butterfly,” “Wind Song,” and “Come to my Garden,” all of which delve into topics of the natural world. "This group of treble voices is really embracing the theme we have this spring,” says Dr. Austin. “I think for many, music is as natural to them as the wind on their faces or the sunshine on their backs, so it all fits beautifully together.”

Dr. Christopher Hathaway and the Concert Choir follow with pieces leaning to themes of natural beauty including works such as “The Blue Bird” by Charles Stanford. “The Blue Bird” commands attention with its resonating bass lines beneath the tender echo of the higher voices – fitting for lines that read, “the sky above was blue at last, the sky beneath me blue in blue.” Dr. Hathaway invites audience members to relax in the vibrant colors of the UWL concert choir this Wednesday for an experience in tune within our natural world.

Both choirs end their programs each with a piece titled “Peace of the Wild Things” – different works of different composers that share the same name.
