Connecting with Compassion and Self-Compassion Practice

A Lecture, Practice, and Discussion from the William J and Yvonne Hyde Colloquium Series

Dr. Rebekah Fowler, English Department, will offer a workshop on self-compassion through mindfulness practices. In this workshop, she will introduce the concepts of "tender" and "fierce" self-compassion and engage participants in activities designed to help them recognize their own suffering and need for compassion and to know when and how to take a pause, breathe, and respond, rather than react, to triggers and struggles. The practices and purposes for the meditations are rooted in the scholarly work of UT Austin's Dr. Kristin Neff and Dr. Fowler's year-long work with Standford CCARE's (Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education) Applied Compassion Training (ACT) program. Dr. Fowler is a certified Compassion Coach and Ambassador.
