UWL Jazz Faculty Recital

Join UWL Department of Music for a special Jazz Faculty Recital on January 31, 2025, celebrating the achievements of Dr. Jeff Erickson, who retires at the end of the academic year. The recital will be at Annett Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. in the Lowe Center for the Arts.

Erickson plays alongside trumpet professor Jon Ailabouni who is set take on Erickson’s role of Director of Jazz Studies. The two professors are joined by guests Laura Caviani, (Piano), Cully Swansen (Bass) and Nick Zielinkski (Drums).

The recital includes original compositions from Erickson and Ailabouni that reflect their unique artistic voices.

“Part of our process for this recital has involved sharing incomplete compositions with one another, and allowing the other to reimagine and complete the composition,” notes Ailabouni. “For example, one of my pieces starts with eight bars that Jeff composed, then I built the rest of the piece around that idea.”

The recital serves as a celebration for Dr. Erickson, who has served as Director of Jazz Studies since 2017, as he passes the torch to Ailabouni. This performance is a fitting tribute to his decades of dedication to jazz education and performance, while also looking forward to the bright future of the UWL Jazz Studies program.

This performance is free and open to the public, no advance reservations required.

Please note that the Lowe Center for the Arts is currently adjacent to a major parking ramp construction project. For more information on parking, visit uwlax.edu/vpa.
