International Death, Grief, and Bereavement Conference

Effects of Ancestral, Generational, and Cultural Shared Grieving

International Death, Grief, & Bereavement Conference
June 2–4, 2025
Preconference: June 1, 2025
University of Wisconsin-La Crosse | Student Union

In our diverse and rich world, it is important to explore global, cultural and ethical contexts of the death, dying and grief experience among dying persons, family members, healthcare providers and within support circles and systems.

Death, grief, and bereavement are shared experiences among the general population globally in times of war, genocide, political unrest, societal violence, and when there is large mass death and grief as we saw during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2025 Conference topics will explore:

  • How do these collective events shape the grieving process in populations?
  • How do these factors impact the experience of bereavement?
  • How does one's generational identity shape the experience of collective mourning?
  • How do we effectively address shared grieving?
