Dr. Borja’s program includes Robert Muczynski’s “Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 14,” a mid-20th-century work known for its rhythmic vitality and expressive depth. The four-movement piece blends lyrical beauty with driving energy, featuring moments of playful virtuosity and introspective elegance. Muczynski’s work remains a staple in the flute repertoire, admired for its balance of technical challenge and musicality.

A centerpiece of the evening will be the world premiere of William Grosvenor Neil’s “Sonata for Flute and Piano.” This newly composed work explores a wide range of emotions and colors, with movements that contrast lively, capricious gestures with moments of reflective beauty. The collaboration between Dr. Borja and composer William Grosvenor Neil offers a rare opportunity to hear a contemporary work performed for the first time, adding a fresh and innovative dimension to the recital.

Dr. Borja has earned recognition for his dynamic performances, described as the “highlight of the evening” by the Kansas City Star. As a dedicated advocate for new and underrepresented music, he has performed throughout the United States and Mexico, appearing at renowned venues and festivals. His expertise in contemporary and Latin American music has led him to collaborate with many leading composers, and his recordings of works by Samuel Zyman and Arturo Rodríguez have been praised for their artistry and insight.

This recital is free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity for audiences to experience a program that bridges tradition and innovation in flute performance. Music lovers and students alike are encouraged to attend and witness this exciting exploration of the flute repertoire.
