Katelyn Bouska, Piano

Guest Artists Recital

UWL Department of Music presents visiting artist Katelyn Bouska in a piano recital, with a program titled “Hildegard And Her Sisters.” She performs on Saturday, February 8 at 4 p.m. at Annett Recital Hall in the Lowe Center for the Arts.

“Hildegard And Her Sisters” celebrates the great composer, mystic, poet, philosopher, scientist, and visionary 12th century abbess, Hildegard von Bingen. In this program, Bouska combines seminal works by Hildegard rewritten as solo piano improvisations, and will perform music of other women composers such as Ruth Schönthal, Maya Miro Johnson (a former student of Dr. Bouska’s), Sláva Vorlová, Clara Schumann and Amy Beach.

The repertoire for Saturday’s recital has been previously recorded by Bouska and was released in 2023 under the title Women and War and Peace.

Pianist Katelyn Bouska is an academic and an advocate, passionate about uncovering music lost to the passage of time. In her programming, she explores the boundaries between audience and performer, the past and the present. She brings to life these composers drawing from her deep research, cultural explorations and innovative programming. She is originally from La Crosse, and is currently based in Prague finishing her book for Karolinum Press, “Czech Women in Music.”

Sponsored in part by the UWL Piano Scholarship Fund, Bouska will present to the Music Appreciation class (approximately 450 students), and also lecture to current music majors and minors from 2:15-3:10 p.m. and meet with UWL’s composition class from 3:20-4:15 p.m. on February 7.

This performance is free and open to the public, no advance reservations required.

Please note that the Lowe Center for the Arts is currently adjacent to a major parking ramp construction project. For more information on parking, visit uwlax.edu/vpa.
