The role of nature in health and wellbeing

Increasing demands on the healthcare system in the United States has precipitated calls for innovative approaches to the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses. A growing body of research supports nature as a viable healthcare tool particularly in regard to mental health. However, much about how nature exposure affects human health must still be explored: what counts as “nature”? how much?, who benefits?, and how best can we integrate it into traditional healthcare? This presentation will address what we know, what we don’t, and current efforts to increase nature as a more holistic approach to health and wellbeing for all.
