National Hispanic Heritage Month 2022

Join us monthly as we celebrate a different community on campus. UWL Celebration Months amplifies voices from the many vibrant cultures and communities on campus. Join us throughout the year as we celebrate our friends and neighbors and gain a deeper understanding of our community.

The purpose of this project is to give others on our campus, in the surrounding community, and anyone that visits the UWL website a chance to learn more about different experiences and perspectives of the community that we are celebrating on any given month.

Allies and advocates are invited to share their stories.

First, thank you for reading this! I am originally from Venezuela and VERY proud to be Hispanic. I am always happy to celebrate my heritage, but specially during this time of the year. My daughter and I try to learn something new about traditions, celebrations, food, culture, geography, etc. from a different Hispanic country. Often, Hispanic people gets generalized as one, when in reality there are many countries and a huge diversity within the Hispanic world! So, this is my challenge for you: Choose a Hispanic country you know nothing about and prepare a dish from that country!

About National Hispanic Heritage Month

Every year from September 15 to October 15, Americans celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month by appreciating the community’s history, heritage, and contributions of their ancestors who came from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, both South, and Central America. While it’s a monthlong celebration, it notably crosses over two calendar months – coinciding with the Independence Day celebrations of Belize, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua.
