The following standing committees and their bylaws are created by action of the senate to support its work.

Meeting Minutes
Meeting minutes are the official record of proceedings and actions taken during committee meetings. Please follow these guidelines for taking meeting minutes for faculty senate meetings. Questions can be directed to the Faculty Senate office at senate@uwlax.edu.
Academic Policies & Standards (CAPS)
Academic Policies and Standards Committee (CAPS) meets the Wednesday before classes start each semester (Fall and Spring) in GMH 325. During the Fall and Spring semesters CAPS meets on selected by the committee Friday's from 2:15 - 3:30 pm in GMH 325.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Formulating and reviewing local policies and standards concerning admissions, advising, retention, advanced standing, probation, dismissal, readmission, the grading system, and graduation honors for undergraduate students.
- Ensuring equitable application of standards by the undergraduate schools and colleges. A voting member has the responsibility to recuse themself if they are unable to ensure equitable application of standards due to a conflict of interest.
- Supervising the administration of these standards and formulating procedures for hearing student appeals and petitions on academic matters not resolved by administrative offices of the university.

Graduate Council
The Graduate Council meets on 1st/3rd Friday’s of each month during the Fall and Spring semesters, from 10:00 – 11:30 am in GMH 325

Graduate Student Representatives

Duties and Responsibilities
- In partnership with programs, departments, schools, and colleges, regularly establishing, monitoring, and revising academic policies pertaining to graduate education, including policies for graduate student admission, honors recognition, retention, probation, dismissal, and readmission, and reviewing those policies at least every five years.
- In partnership with the Director of Graduate Studies, sharing responsibility for graduate education strategic planning to ensure:
- on-going review, assessment, and revision of the strategic plan; and
- implementation of recommendations resulting from strategic planning activities.
- Overseeing membership in the graduate faculty.
- Determine procedures and criteria for selecting members of the graduate faculty.
- Review new graduate faculty applications through a standing subcommittee.
- Periodically approve and updated roster of members of the graduate faculty.
- Formulating procedures for hearing graduate student appeals and petitions on academic policy matters not resolved by administrative offices of the university.
- Reviewing Research, Service, and Education Leadership (RSEL) grant applications through a standing subcommittee.

- Study and report to the senate on university budget decisions that affect instruction and research.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Consulting with the chancellor on financial emergencies in which faculty layoffs are anticipated as prescribed in UWS 5.
- Participating in any decision regarding potential program curtailment, in accordance with UWL 5.05 - 5.08.
- Representing the faculty before the board of regents if a state of financial emergency is declared, as detailed in UWS 5.04 - 5.06.
