TUTORIAL VIDEO: Accepting Your Financial Aid Offer

  • You must either accept or decline your financial aid offer at your WINGS Student Center, https://wings.uwlax.edu. To reduce the amount of loan, accept it, reduce it and then submit it. The amount accepted will be split equally between semesters unless you are only attending one semester. Contact the Financial Aid Office about an exception to even disbursements.
  • You will not be able to accept "Your Other Loan Eligibility*". This amount is informational only, letting you know the maximum amount that can be borrowed in a Parent PLUS Loan, Graduate PLUS Loan (graduate students only) or a private student loan. Any of these will require a separate application.
  • The amount listed as "Your Other Loan Eligibility*" is your cost of attendance minus any financial aid that is offered. In most cases, borrowing the entire amount listed as "Your Other Loan Eligibility*" will result in you receiving a financial aid refund. You are encouraged to borrow only what you need.
  • Tutorial Video: What is "Other Loan Eligibility"?
  • If you determine that you borrowed more than you need, contact the Financial Aid Office about reducing the accepted loan(s) and returning funds to the lender.
  • If you declined or reduced an offered loan and later determine that you need a portion of the funds, you can contact the Financial Aid Office to request the loan be added back onto your financial aid offer as long as school is still in session and you are still enrolled at least half-time.

Your Financial Aid Allowance or Cost of Attendance Allowance, is the amount of financial aid you are eligible for.  The Cost of Attendance (COA) includes expenses billed by UWL and an allowance towards educational expenses not billed by UWL.  These amounts in your aid allowance may not be the actual amounts billed by UWL.  This aid allowance is created with estimates as actuals are not known when aid offers begin.  The amounts are for fall and spring combined (half-each semester).

If your actual educational expenses exceed this amount in the cost of attendance allowance, you have the option to appeal with documentation.  Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you want to appeal your financial aid cost of attendance allowance.
