Faculty Development Grant

The UWL Faculty Development Committee (FDC) awards grants to support the professional development of faculty and instructional academic staff and projects intended to improve teaching and learning. There are two types of grants:

  1. Teaching Innovation
  2. Professional Development

Deadline

Proposals must be submitted via the Canvas grant submission course by noon on the fourth Friday in January (next deadline: January 24, 2025 by noon).

Proposal Information

Review the Guidelines/Request for Proposals (RFP) for the full program requirements.

Submission Process:

  1. Self-enroll in the Faculty Development Grant submission course in Canvas.
  2. Email a copy of your application to your department chair and verify their approval.
  3. By the deadline, upload and submit all proposal materials in PDF format via Canvas. Each application component must be submitted as a separate assignment in Canvas:
    1. Cover Page & Abstract
    2. Proposal Narrative
    3. Budget - Use the required template. This is a universal budget template. Not all categories listed are allowable for this grant. Refer to the guidelines/RFP for allowable expenses.
    4. Budget Justification
    5. Professional Development proposals: Letter(s) of Support:
      1. At least one letter addressing the overall importance/significance of project/activity
      2. Projects involving groups of faculty: Letters of commitment from collaborators
      3. If international travel is requested: Letter of support from immediate supervisor
    6. Professional Development proposals: Additional Supporting Documents:
      1. Vitae summary
      2. Any additional materials useful in evaluating proposal (e.g., workshop information, brochures)
      3. If international travel is requested: additional narrative justifying international travel
      4. Sabbatical projects only: Sabbatical Supplementary Information Form

Final Reports

A final report on project outcomes/accomplishments must be submitted to using the Faculty Development Grant Final Report Form for the applicable grant track (Professional Development or Teaching Innovation) must be emailed to ORSP (grants@uwlax.edu) and is due by June 1. Failure to fulfill this obligation will make faculty ineligible for future internal grant funds until such a report is submitted.
