Tips for Fall Fitness October 2020

Trying new things to stay fit in the fall.

  1. Take advantage of the weather
We live in such a beautiful area of the country (hello Driftless Region!) that offers access to so many beautiful hiking & biking trails.  Not to mention State Parks!  The cooler weather lends itself well to spending more time outdoors – goodbye heat and Wisconsin mosquitos.

Here is a great list of Driftless Area sites that offer great hiking https://driftlesswisconsin.com/things-to-do/outdoor-activities/hiking/.

If you are staying closer to home, even something as simple as getting out and raking the leaves or cleaning up the garden are great ways to move your body and enjoy the fresh air.  Bonus – they are also kid-friendly!

  2. Plan fall activities that involve walking
The main two that come to mind this time of year is apple-picking and pumpkin picking at a local pumpkin patch.  Here is a list of local orchards & pumpkin patches https://www.travelwisconsin.com/things-to-do/local-foods/farm-markets-pick-your-own.
  1. Try something new
Going to the gym may not be an option for you given the current Covid conditions however, thanks to technology, there are a variety of fitness apps available that can introduce you to the practice of Yoga, cycling, running, HIIT even TRX!  Most are available for free and offer an upgraded version for a monthly fee.  Here is a great list https://www.prevention.com/fitness/fitness-tips/g25357974/best-workout-apps/?slide=21
