1. What is an Investiture Ceremony?

The Investiture Ceremony is a formal event where the new chancellor is officially installed into their position as the head of the institution. This ceremonial occasion includes symbolic traditions such as the presentation of the chancellor’s regalia, speeches and the formal transfer of leadership responsibilities.

2. Why is the Investiture Ceremony important?

The Investiture Ceremony marks the official beginning of the chancellor’s tenure and represents a milestone for the university. It is an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate the institution’s leadership, its values and its future under the new chancellor’s guidance.

3. What happens during the Investiture Ceremony?

During the ceremony, the chancellor is presented with the ceremonial medallion of office, symbolizing their leadership role. There are often speeches from distinguished guests, including university leaders, elected officials and the chancellor themselves. The ceremony may include formal academic rituals, such as the conferring of the chancellor's regalia.

4. How can I attend the Investiture Ceremony?

The ceremony is open to the public, but we are requiring attendees to RSVP in advance. Be sure to click the registration tab on the left side of the screen to register for the event.

6. What is the dress code for the Investiture Ceremony?

The Investiture Ceremony is a formal event, and business or semi-formal attire is recommended for attendees. Faculty members and other participants in the ceremony are required to wear academic regalia, including robes and hoods.

7. Will there be an after-party or reception following the ceremony?

Yes, there will be a community celebration on the Student Union Lawn immediately after the Investiture Ceremony. If weather does not permit this, the first floor of the Union will be utilized. Programing details will come in early April on the schedule page. 

8. What speeches or remarks can I expect during the Investiture?

The ceremony will include speeches from the chancellor, key university leaders and other dignitaries. The chancellor will deliver an inaugural address outlining their vision, goals and priorities for the institution.

9. Can students participate in the Investiture Ceremony?

Yes, students are invited to attend the ceremony as part of the audience, and in early April, students will be able to serve as volunteers for the event.

10. What is the significance of the chancellor’s regalia during the ceremony?

The chancellor’s regalia is a symbol of their academic achievements and leadership role. The ceremonial robe, medallion and other elements represent the authority, responsibility and tradition of the office. The regalia will be presented during the Investiture Ceremony as part of the formal transition of leadership.
