- Please pay attention to the training dates- the training is mandatory and offers a chance to get to know the rest of the team, receive important training tools and resources on working with our participants and hear about the logistics that will help run our programs smoothly.

Mentoring and Tutoring (M&T) Program
We are looking for mentors for all 3 sites.
FALL 2024 Pre-College Mentor Application
*Pre-College staff will email you to set up an interview once you submit your online application.
There are additional roles available for each site. Please click on the links provided to read about the roles/responsibilities of each role! Staff who are interested in these roles are also required to be a Mentor.
What do Pre-College Mentors do?
We are pleased that you are considering mentoring with our Pre-College programs. Currently, you can choose from 3 different options through our office. Each of these options will provide you the opportunity to work directly with a student after school or in the early evening.
Expectations of Mentors:
- Commitment to meet each week with assigned student(s) (15-20 hours or more per semester)
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings
- Engagement during all tutoring and enrichment activities
- Plan and facilitate at least 1 enrichment activity (varies across sites). We have a ton of resources and some activities pre-planned out to choose from!
A typical Wednesday session follows the general format:
- 3:45 Mentors gathered at a spot on campus and transport down to the Three Rivers House (downtown La Crosse).
- 4:00 Youth and Mentors arrive to the site- welcome and snack time
- 4:15- 5:00 Mentors work with youth and offer tutoring services
- 5:00- 6:00 Mentors continue to partner with their students while they engage in activities run by the Center's staff or other community partnerships
- 6:00-6:15 Mentors pack up and head back to campus
A typical Tuesday/Thursday evening session follows this general format:
- 4:30 Mentors arrive at Centennial Hall and meet in room 3100 for staff briefing
- 4:45-5:00 Mentees arrive- Mentors are either waiting down by the circle to walk students up or are a driver or co-pilot and bring mentees onto campus
- 5:00-5:30 We eat dinner family style and create a "soft landing" for the evening
- 5:30-6:00 Break out into 2 or 3 different classrooms and work on homework, studying, or other academic activities. This will vary based on the particular student you're working with
- 6:00-6:30 Students can continue to work on homework or academic practice. Students can also complete career readiness and/or college prep activities.
- 6:30-6:55 Mentors lead enrichment activities. These include arts and crafts, games, outside activities, Kahoot quizzes, teambuilding challenges, etc.
- 6:55-7:00 Clean up, pack up, and dismiss students
- 7:00-7:15 Staff Debrief
Work Study Students
If you would like to request work study in Precollege Tutoring, please complete the appropriate questionnaire for the year you are interested in serving as a work study student and submit to Financial Aid as soon as possible. Students need to read the information on the site before filling out the questionnaire. Only students who are awarded FWS can complete the questionnaire.
Expectations of Work Study Students:
- Commitment to meet each week with assigned student(s) (15-20 hours or more per semester)
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings
- Plan and facilitate at least 1 enrichment activity (varies across sites)
- Take on additional lead roles (lead tutor, enrichment coordinator, co-pilot, etc.)
- Timely completion of necessary paperwork (payroll, time sheets, etc.)

Technology and Computer Science (TACOS) Camp - APPLY HERE!
Information will be available winter 2024/2025 for the upcoming summer programming dates!
TACOS Camp is a new day camp for students entering 7th-9th grade in fall 2024. This camp will focus on fundamentals of computer science and first -hand experience! This summer campers will learn about videography! 10-15 students from the greater La Crosse area will spend 6 hours per day on campus Monday-Friday to form an intercultural community along with pre-college staff and college student camp counselors. Potential counselors do NOT need to have experience in the field! We will be working with campus partners to lead student sessions!
2024 Dates: June 17-21
Staff Training: June 12-13 (time TBD)
Time: 9 am-3 pm
Location: UWL Centennial Hall

Camp Quantum (Camp Q) Counselor - APPLY HERE!
Information for summer 2025 will be available this winter! Stay tuned!
Camp Q is a residential computer science camp for incoming 8th-12th grade students. Counselors and campers will stay on campus in Eagle Hall for 3 nights! Counselors do not need to have experience in the computer science field but rather a desire to connect and mentor students throughout the camp!
Dates: June 23-26 (Start and end times will be determined shortly)
Staff Training: June 13-14

Emerging Leaders of the Future (ELF) Camp Counselor - APPLY HERE!
Emerging Leaders of the Future (ELF) Camp
Information regarding this program will be available winter 2024/2025!
ELF Camp is a day camp for students entering 7th-9th grade in fall 2025. This camp will focus on leadership and intercultural identity development. 10-15 students from the greater La Crosse area will spend 6 hours per day on campus Monday-Friday to form an intercultural community along with pre-college staff and college student camp counselors.
As part of the curriculum, the participants learn from each other, self-exploration, and engage in enrichment activities to discover leadership styles and strengths. This will be achieved through active dialogue circles and workshops that explore leadership qualities and cultural identity through the lens of various identities and provide students with knowledge and skills to develop their own leadership skills and continue their journey to discover themselves.

My River Adventures (MRA) Counselor - APPLY HERE!

This is an environmental focused residential summer camps for incoming 8th-12th grade students! Counselors and campers will stay on campus in Eagle Hall. No experience needed in the field of environmental studies- we will be working with faculty from the River Studies Center who will facilitate engaging hands on activities!
