Celebrating community during Welcome Week
Murphy Library came out in full force for Eagle Fest 2024, as did so many organizations and offices on campus.
“The event was so lively, and it was great to see so many attendees,” said Information Literacy Course Integration Librarian Kendall Morgan, who worked at one of the tables lining Badger Street.
UWL’s Campus Activity Board (CAB) hosted the event, which featured food, live music, and more entertainment in addition to tables showcasing the variety UWL’s campus has to offer.
Murphy Library was represented alongside a table for our Special Collections and Area Research Center (ARC). Attendees interacted with the SC/ARC booth by trying out a 19th century stereograph, playing Eagleopoly trivia, and by taking their picture in a cut-out of an enlarged archival photo from UWL’s past.
At the Murphy Library booth, 169 people tried out our guess-the-Banned-Book game, including Chancellor Beeby, who successfully guessed all of the titles with only a series of emojis as the prompt. The winner of the game will be notified and given their prize, an “I Read Banned Books” mug.
Murphy Library has also had involvement in TEDxUWLaCrosse, and librarians helped table for the upcoming TEDx event, as well. Registration is now live to reserve a spot at TEDxUWLaCrosse this fall. The event will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, in The Bluffs, Student Union.
