Pipe – Basalt
This pipe is made of basalt, and has been pecked, smoothed, and drilled. Apparently, the craftsman bit off more than he could chew with the hard basalt, as the stem hole is drilled to a depth of less than one centimeter. There is only a slight indication of where the drilling started for the bowl. The pipe seems finished except for the drilling of the hole; apparently, the craftsman simply gave up. The pipe was recovered from a site located north of La Crosse, Wisconsin.
