Seeds – Goosefoot
Seeds GoosefootAlthough we rarely find their seeds, greens were probably harvested from wild plants. Goosefoot (Chenopodium sp.) seeds are common at North American sites, and the plant might have been grown for both greens and seeds. Goosefoot is related to quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa), a popular seed that has been grown in South America for over 7000 years. Photograph of Goosefoot seeds recovered from an archaeological site. Although charred, the seed's distinctive features remain so that the seed can be identified. Background lines are 1mm apart.
