Fall fieldwork can be chilly, but fun! This central Wisconsin beach had been crossed before we got there by many creatures great and small: big deer, little deer, coyotes, otters, beaver, raccoons, little bitsy things--and three little bears with their mama, just strolling along the shore. Mom was closest to the water the whole way. The frozen sand preserved their tracks, and the low-angle sun picked them out. Wish I'd had more time for photos!
