Woodland points Forty-four projectile points were recovered during the 2008 excavations at the Sand Lake Archaeological District, located north of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Seven of the points are relatively large straight or contracting stemmed forms that conform typologically with Early Woodland Kramer and Waubesa types. Top row – three of the four Kramer points are made of relatively coarse silicified sandstone. The lone exception is made of Prairie du Chien chert (top row, second from right), and the tip has been broken off. Bottom row – two of the three Waubesa Contracting Stemmed points are also made of coarse silicified sandstone. The third Waubesa point (bottom row, right) is substantially larger and is made of an unknown chert (possibly a variety of Burlington).
