Native Americans in Wisconsin worked copper into a variety of ornaments and tools, and the copper was traded all over the continent. The copper came from pure copper nuggets that were mined in the Lake Superior region.
Copper points were most common during the Late Archaic period, and were often socketed to fit into a spear haft. Ornaments such as beads, and tools such as awls were also made and used during Archaic and Oneota Traditions.
