Graff Distinguished Alumni Award
Shirley Otis-Green
Shirley Otis-Green graduated from UW-L in 1981 with a degree in social work. She received a master’s degree in social work in 1986 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is a doctoral student working toward her Ph.D. in palliative care from the School of Health and Medicine at Lancaster University, Lancaster, Great Britain. Otis-Green is a licensed clinical social worker and senior research specialist in the Division of Nursing Research and Education at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, Calif.
Alfonzo Thurman
Alfonzo Thurman graduated from UW-L in 1971 with a degree in English. He earned a master’s degree in educational policy studies from UW-Madison in 1973 and a doctoral degree in Educational Policy Studies from UW-Madison in 1979. Thurman has served as the Dean of the School of Education and Chancellor’s Deputy for Education Partnerships at UW-Milwaukee since 2001. His wife, Brazilian, is also a 1971 UW-L graduate.

Darryl Lipscomb
Darryl Lipscomb graduated from UW-L in 1977 with a degree in mass communications and in 1982 with a master’s in education. Since 1989 he has served as a senior investigator for Civil Rights Commission in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lipscomb conducts investigations into allegations of differential treatment and alleged violation of local, state, and federal discrimination laws.

Brian Lammi
Brian Lammi graduated from UW-L in 1996 with a degree in sports management. He is founder and president of the Lammi Sports Management. The firm focuses on athlete appearances and endorsements, sports media and creating lifetime memories through unique sports experiences. He serves on the Board of Directors for Special Olympics of Wisconsin and the Donald Driver Foundation.
Nate Melby
Nate Melby graduated from UW-L in 2002 with a degree in information systems. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from UW-Whitewater in 2003. He will earn his doctorate in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., in 2013. Currently, Melby works as an Enterprise Information Security Architect with Ingersoll Rand in La Crosse. He has served as a firefighter for the Town of Campbell since 1997 and is currently the fire chief. He has also served as a Town of Campbell emergency management officer since 1998.
