Read more about Two students receive school health honors James Longhurst, associate professor in the UWL Department of History, has been recognized as the 2017 Volunteer of the Year. Longhurst received the honor from the La Crosse County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau in May.

Kids from Schuh Homes Boys and Girls Club race to pack styrofoam packing peanuts into two different containers — one filled with acetone and one filled with water. The winner quickly emerges as the packing peanuts immediately dissolve in the acetone, which shows principles of solubility and organic chemistry.

An explosion of interest Posted 10:43 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 Chemistry and Biochemistry Club demonstrates cool magic, a.k.a chemistry, to area kids. Read more about An explosion of interest UWL photography students turned coffee grounds into the groundwork for art. Their artwork can be seen at Cool Beans Coffee Shop, 1221 La Crosse St., through June 7. The exhibit is free, but the students are selling the prints for $20 with proceeds going to New Horizons Shelter and Outreach Centers in La Crosse.
