UWL men’s volleyball club team earns championship
A trip to the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation’s men’s club tournament in April ended in double delight for UW-La Crosse.
The UWL men’s collegiate club volleyball team won the NCVF Division II national championship and, in the process, avenged a loss in the tourney last season against rival UW-Eau Claire.
The UWL team won during pool play, then advanced through the gold bracket to defeat UW-Eau Claire in the championship in Kansas City, Missouri, April 12-16.
This year’s team included Christian Brayer, Danny Belknapp, James Petersen, Joey Mahan, Xavier Stueber, Keegan Kearby, Nick Voet, Keaton Gaffney, Noah Barschdorf and Harry Stahn.
This wasn’t the first title for the UWL club team, which has participated in federation play for years. The Eagles won the tournament previously in 2011, 2012 and 2015.
During the regular season, the UWL team is part of UWL’s Rec Sports and plays home games in the Recreational Eagle Center.
