UW-La Crosse volunteers raised nearly $9,000 for The Salvation Army while ringing bells Saturday, Dec. 8 at various locations in La Crosse and Onalaska.

About 240 UW-La Crosse student volunteers and UW-L advisers raised nearly $9,000 for The Salvation Army while ringing bells Saturday, Dec. 8, at various locations in La Crosse and Onalaska. The volunteer movement was the Annual All-UW-L Bell Ringing, sponsored by the UW-L Habitat for Humanity chapter. “This was our most successful year in terms of raising funds — We set a new bar for next year,” says Tom Claflin, professor emeritus of biology and adviser to the UW-L Habitat for Humanity chapter. Student representation came from seven residence halls and 15 student organizations ranging from martial arts to pre-med club. Claflin gave special thanks to UW-L student organizations and Nick Nicklaus, UW-L director of Residence Life, for help organizing residence hall volunteers.
