Award-winning play details father's estate

The winner of the 2014–15 Obie Award for Best New American Play will kick off the 2017-18 University Theatre season. "Appropriate" follows the story of how estranged members of the Lafayette family have descended upon the crumbling Arkansas homestead to settle the accounts of their recently deceased father’s estate. As the three adult children sort through a lifetime of hoarded mementos and junk, they collide over clutter, debt and a contentious family history. But after a disturbing discovery surfaces among their father’s possessions, the reunion takes a turn for the explosive, unleashing a series of crackling surprises and confrontations. "Appropriate" takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13-14 and 19-21, along with 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays, Oct. 15 and 22, in Toland Theatre, Center for the Arts. The play has explicit language and content. Tickets are on sale online at www.uwlax.edu/theatre-arts. The box office and phone orders begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9. The box office, located on the first floor of the Center for the Arts,  is open 1-4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and one hour before the shows. Tickets are $7 for UWL students, $16 for other students and senior citizens, and $18 for others.
