More than 500 musicians expected
High school band students from throughout the Coulee Region are expected to take the field at UW-L Saturday, Sept. 14. They’ll join the UW-L Screaming Eagles Marching Band for its 3rd annual High School Band Day.
More than 500 musicians will join collegiate counterparts on the field for special pre-game and halftime performances.
“The event gives the high school students an idea of what it is like to be in a college marching band,” says Associate Professor of Music Tammy Fisher, UW-L Marching Band Director. “They also get the experience of performing in front of thousands of fans.”
The 10 high schools participating include: Bangor, Central, Holmen, La Crescent, La Farge, Logan, Onalaska, Prairie du Chien, Tomah and Wabasha-Kellogg.
The high school students will arrive on campus at 8:30 a.m. to rehearse with the Screaming Eagles, preparing music and dance movements for the special shows. Following the morning rehearsal, they will eat lunch, suit-up, and “step-off” as they march from the Center for the Arts to Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The pre-game performance includes “Pretty Fly for a White Guy,” “Crazy Train” and the “Star Spangled Banner.” The halftime performance includes “I Want you Back” and “Saturday Night’s Alright.”
The UW-L Eagles will be playing North Central College. Game time is 1 p.m.
