La Crosse librarians are joining forces to launch a new conference to promote literacy among K-12 through college-age students.

La Crosse librarians are joining forces to launch a new conference to promote literacy among K-12 through college-age students. The inaugural C.A.L.L.: Conference About Libraries and Literacy runs from 8:45 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Murphy Library. The title and theme of the conference is “If Only They Knew.” Keynote speaker Heather Brunold, a nationally-recognized thought leader in adolescent development and family-school dynamics, will discuss her research with college readiness in students who attend different types of schools. Brunold received a doctorate of education from the University of Southern California and has held positions in K-12 schools and higher education, along with private, education-related business and consulting. The conference theme refers to sharing information and developing collaborative programs among libraries of different types as they work toward a common goal of advancing literacy in the K-12 through college-age populations. The conference aims to bring together librarians from public, academic, school and special libraries to learn of each other's’ activities, understand their common ground, and develop interconnected programs that build on their unique strengths. The conference is a collaboration among the UWL Murphy Library, the School District of La Crosse, the La Crosse Public Library, and Western Technical College.
