Artist plans talks at Pump House, UW-L as part of exhibit

‘Post Card, La Crosse’ currently in Kader Gallery

Artist Kevin Knopp will give two public talks in conjunction with his Pump House exhibit, “Post Card, La Crosse.” Knopp will discuss the ideas, techniques and evolution of his works in the exhibit during a gallery talk at noon Friday, March 28, in the Kader Gallery, 119 King St. Later that day, Knopp will give a slide lecture on “The Metaphysical Wanderings of a Flyoverland Piano Tuner” at 5 p.m. in 116 Center for the Arts at UW-La Crosse. His presentation will include the concept of wanderlust, contexts of creativity and the relevancy of the landscape in a postmodern world. His UW-L presentation is part of the university’s Visiting Artist Series. Both presentations are free and open to the public. Since returning to Wisconsin three decades ago from studying art in New York, Knopp has maintained an active studio practice exhibiting regularly in both non-profit and for-profit exhibitions. He recently completed a master’s of fine arts from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. He has taught painting and art appreciation as an adjunct professor at UW-L. For 27 years he has balanced life as a visual artist, drummer and percussionist while operating a piano tuning business. The Visiting Artists Series is a cross-disciplinary, department-wide event designed to enrich the art experience of students, faculty and local community. Artists working in visual and new media from local, national and international communities and whose work spans a wide range of art practices are invited to participate in lectures, critiques, performances and demonstrations. The series is funded by a UW-L Foundation grant.
