A before and after juxtapose of Wittich Hall.

The physical education building was renamed Wittich Hall in 1954 for Walter Wittich, a faculty member who taught on campus from 1916 until his death in 1953. Wittich served as chairman of the physical education department and was instrumental in developing the school newspaper,"The Racquet," in 1919. The cornerstone was laid in 1916. Construction was stopped during the First World War and the building finally opened in 1920. An addition, called the “women’s gym," was added in 1931. In 1985, Wittich Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places. When Wittich Hall undergoes a $24 million renovation beginning in 2016, efforts will be made to preserve the historic integrity of the building. It will serve as the new home of the College of Business Administration and Small Business Develop Center.
