Students, alum reset the pins for the storied club bowling team.

After a nine-year hiatus, UWL will have a competitive bowling team again. Club bowling was voted into the Sport Club organization this past Friday, April 15. Student Ben Polzin and alum Scott Dunnum, among others, worked to revive the program, which boasts multiple national championships and five UWL Wall of Fame members. “These kids have put in a lot of hard work,” says Dunnum, ’90, whose son is on the team. “It’s a long road to start from scratch and become a student organization.” Earlier this year, the team hosted a bowl-a-thon fundraiser, where community members pledged money for every pin someone knocked down. That funding will be used to help members participate in tournaments. The club plans to start competing in the fall. They will compete against teams from the Midwest, including Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota. On top of that, Polzin plans to interact with other organizations on campus, such as organizing a bowling outing for international students. “It’s not just about the competition,” says Polzin. “The great thing about bowling is it’s a social environment.” Anyone interested in joining the club or who has questions should email Polzin. “We’d be more than happy to have you bowl with us,” he says.
