The national public affairs network C-SPAN is coming to UW-La Crosse.
The traveling C-SPAN bus will make a stop on campus from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the stadium parking lot adjacent to East Avenue. Admission is free.
A 45-foot C-SPAN Bus has been traveling the country since 1993, visiting schools, political events, book festivals and state capitals. Over the last 25 years, it has been featured at 8,000 events and hosted 1.5 million visitors, which includes 40,000 teachers and 800,000 students.
The C-SPAN Bus is currently on a swing through the Midwestern states of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The bus will be arriving in La Crosse after a day visit in Rochester, Minnesota. The next day it heads to the Badger State Capital of Madison.
The C-SPAN Bus is an interactive, multimedia mobile classroom that travels the country to engage with community members and elected officials, showcasing C-SPAN's public affairs programming and resources. The state-of-the-art customized motor coach gives an inside look at C-SPAN’s comprehensive educational and political resources.
The C-SPAN Bus has:
• Access to an exclusive interactive experience available on 11 large-screen tablets featuring C-SPAN programming and myriad of political and educational resources
• A smart TV and classroom area for conversations with students and teachers
• A high-definition TV production studio for taped and live programming
• A 360-degree video station featuring C-SPAN's unfiltered coverage of high-profile events and insightful, behind-the-scenes tours of U.S. landmarks
• A D.C.-themed selfie station where visitors can share their Bus experiences through social media. The C-SPAN Bus celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2017 by embarking on the 50 Capitals Tour. The tour was captured in C-SPAN's social media campaign, “Voices from the States.”
The C-SPAN network made its debut 40 years ago last March. The nonprofit Cable Satellite Public Affairs Network aired its first broadcast back in 1979, offering The U.S. a window into the world of Washington, D.C. The network launched with a speech from then-Tennessee Rep. Al Gore.
