UW-La Crosse to host its 48th annual International Banquet Food and culture from around the world will highlight the 48th Annual International Banquet at UW-L. The banquet brings together the talents of a variety of international and study abroad students, faculty and staff to offer an evening filled with ethnic foods and a myriad of performances involving cultural music, dancing and singing. The International Banquet is scheduled for Friday, April 12, in the Recreational Eagle Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. The banquet runs from 5:30-8:30. Read more » |

National Conference on Undergraduate Research at UW-L April 11-13 includes 3,050 student presentations Undergraduates from 48 states and seven countries will present their research findings at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) held on the UW-L campus Thursday through Saturday, April 11-13. UW-L students to exhibit in downtown show Artwork by seven UW-La Crosse art majors will be featured in an upcoming show downtown La Crosse. “Untitled: Emerging Artists Exhibition” opens with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 5, at The Vitamin Studio, 129 S. 6th St. Artists will be attend and discuss their work. Area high school artwork at UW-L![]() A competitive art show at UW-La Crosse will feature work by young artists from throughout Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District. UW-L students selected to perform at Honors Recital
Eight students studying music at UW-L have been selected to perform in the Music Department’s annual Honors Recital. The students will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in Annett Recital Hall, Center for the Arts. The performance is free and open to the public. UW-L ROTC battalion takes part in memorial march
Students in UW-La Crosse’s ROTC program took part in a challenging march in New Mexico during their spring break. On Sunday, March 17, nine US Army ROTC Cadets and Lt. Col. James R. Hill, professor of Military Science from the UW-L Eagle Battalion, successfully completed the 24th Annual Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. They participated in the full 26.2 mile marathon in the heavy category, carrying ruck sacks that weighed 35 pounds or more. Read more »

UW-L Mobile Beta goes live
The UW-L Mobile Beta has launched and is available at www.uwlax.edu/mobile. Any mobile device can access all of the features of this new, Web-based mobile site.
The UW-L Mobile Beta is another way for faculty, staff and students to access WINGS. The most popular WINGS features have been re-engineered to format properly on mobile devices. This new site also puts other campus online resources and services at users’ fingertips allowing:
- Student access to WINGS to check grades, review their class schedule, request transcripts and more.
- Faculty and staff access to WINGS to look at class rosters, view advisees, message their classes and more.
- Access to a class search and course descriptions.
- Links to Murphy Library’s mobile site, D2L, campus directory search, campus map, UW-L Facebook, UW-L Twitter and other campus resources.

The Album Encounters multimedia light and laser show will feature the Eagles' “Greatest Hits” at 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, in 20 Cowley Hall. Admission is $4. The Planetarium’s Public Program for April is "Saturn — Jewel of the Heavens.” The talk followed by a multimedia audiovisual presentation will be at 1 p.m. Saturdays, April 1, 11, 18 and 25. Students to discuss J-term India Study Tour on April 5
Students who participated in UW-L's J-term India Study Tour will share photos and talk about their experience at 3:15 p.m. Friday, April 5, in 247 Graff Main Hall. The study tour included visits to both north and south India, including the cities of Delhi, Bangalore and Mysore and the Taj Mahal. The group also stayed with Indian families in their homes. Conversations discussing contemporary social justice, diversity and climate issues are discussed the first Friday of each month. Films range from TED Talks to documentaries and typically last less than 45 minutes. Discussion will follow.
Film Series Events are presented and facilitated by friends and colleagues of Campus Climate and are free and open to everyone. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch and are welcome to come late or leave early.

Chicago, Daughtry and The Remainders to perform at this year's Freedom Fest; ticket sales begin April 6
Freedom Fest 2013 includes performances by nationally-renowned entertainers Chicago and Daughtry and the regional favorites The Remainders. This year's Freedom Fest begins with a motorcycle rally outside UW-L's Veterans Memorial Field Complex at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, and ends with a 10:15 p.m. fireworks show. Other performers include The 451st Army Band and the Blue Stars.
All proceeds from Freedom Fest benefit Veterans’ causes, including a scholarship fund for veterans who wish to further their education at a University of Wisconsin school. The annual event has raised $400,000 for Veterans’ causes and has distributed $80,000 in scholarships for Veterans.
Tickets are available for purchase starting Saturday, April 6, on the Freedom Fest website at freedomfestlacrosse.com and at area Festival Foods through Friday, June 14. General Admission tickets are also available the day of the event.
Logistics Health Inc. is the sponsor of the fest for the sixth year.

This year's emcees are UW-L Alumna Molly Censky and faculty member Sara Sullivan. Cost to attend is $5 for students and $10 for others in advance. Admission increases by $2 the day of the show. Purchase tickets at the Cartwright Center Ticket Office. Tips will go toward the Dr. Sara Sullivan LGBTQ Study Abroad Scholarship for LGBTIQQAA students.

Streamlined Cooperative Education and Internship Program procedures begin April 15
UW-L's Cooperative Education and Internship Program will be automated and streamlined to speed up the internship approval and evaluation processes by Monday, April 15, in time for summer 2013 internships.

UW-L graduate students Nick Beltz and Dustin Erbes, Clinical Exercise Physiology, had their joint thesis "Kettlebells Kick Butt" published in the March issue of ACE's Certified News. Faculty advisers were Scott Doberstein, Carl Foster and John Porcari, all Exercise and Sport Science.
John Greany and Thomas Kernozek, both Health Professions, and graduate student Cassandra Heizler published "Plantar Loading Asymmetry in Native Americans with Diabetes and Peripheral Neuropathy, with Diabetes Only, and Without Diabetes" in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, March/April 2013, Vol. 103, No. 2, pp. 106-112.
Jon Hageseth and Jodie Rindt, both Student Affairs Administration, along with faculty colleagues from Indiana State University, Colorado State University and University of Louisville, presented “Creating Online Master’s Programs in Student Affairs” at the Annual Conference of NASPA–Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education in Orlando, Fla., March 18.
Betsy Morgan, Psychology, was elected president of Psi Chi, the International Honors Society for Psychology, and will serve a three-year term as elect, president and past president beginning August.
Mai Chang Vue, School of Education, and UW-L students Cassandra Armstrong, Katherine Gonzalez, Abir Ismail, Cathy Leon, Eric Smith, Kaying Vang, Xia Vang, Dewayne Wrenched, Nouqu Xiong, Tria Xiong and Jason Yang successfully organized the first Student Development Conference on campus March 22-23. Representatives from UW-L, UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, UW-Superior and UW-Whitewater collaborated on the event that supports recruiting and retaining diverse and underrepresented students in teacher education.

OCW symposium 'Seeking Meaning, Finding Purpose' set for April 10
Discovering meaning in life is critical to happiness, says UW-L alumna Marci Madary.

Madary is the guest speaker at this year's OCW spring symposium "Seeking Meaning, Finding Purpose."
Madary will use research, experience and poetry to explore what gives lives purpose. She'll help participants find ways to answer questions such as, "Why was I born? What is my life about? Do I make a difference?"
The symposium will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in Port O' Call, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. Along with Madary's presentation, the free symposium will include light refreshments and door prizes. No pre-registration is required.
Madary, an adjunct professor at Viterbo University, also leads retreats and workshops. She has a masters of arts degree in pastoral ministry from St. Mary's University in Winona. She is trained in energy therapy, the Enneagram and spiritual direction and has a passion for poetry. Madary is the mother of two young adults.
