File soon for financial aid for summer, fall 2013 and spring 2014; priority date is March 15

To file the 2013-14 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web go to  www.fafsa.gov. Both parents and students should use their completed 2012 Federal Income Tax Forms to complete the FAFSA. Those who filed 2012 federal taxes online should be able to retrieve within two to three weeks after filing federal tax data right into FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Option. This option streamlines and expedites the processing of financial aid applications. In order to successfully use the IRS Data Retrieval option, applicants must have a federal tax return filed with the IRS, have a valid Social Security Number, a US Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN), and have an unchanged marital status since Dec. 31, 2012. When completing the tax information on the FAFSA, indicate “Already Filed” and select the IRS Data Retrieval option. Applicants who choose not to use the IRS Data Retrieval process and have their applications selected for verification, will be asked to provide a tax return transcript that must be obtained from the IRS. A copy of the tax return is no longer sufficient for verification documentation. Students are encouraged to file as early as possible. UW-L has a priority date of Friday, March 15for processing financial aid to ensure consideration for funds for all programs. Students who wish to be considered for aid for the summer, must also complete a 2013 Summer Application which is available at www.uwlax.edu/finaid/forms.html. Financial Aid Award Letters are not mailed to students, but will be available online. During the summer, students with complete financial aid applications will receive an email at their campus email address instructing them to access their award letter online at their WINGS Student Center. Students should follow the instructions for accepting their award letter. Parents and students should be wary of any unsolicited mail requesting payment for processing the FAFSA or for processing an application for merit or need based aid including scholarships. There is no charge to file the FAFSA or any other financial aid application. For more information, contact the UW-L Financial Aid Office at finaid@uwlax.edu.

Information on UW-L 2013 Affirmative Action Program now available

The UW-L 2013 Affirmative Action Program has been completed and is now available. The summary narrative can be downloaded here. A printed edition including appendices is available in the Office of Affirmative Action, 131 Graff Main Hall, and on reserve in Murphy Library. The goal of UW-L’s affirmative action efforts is to ensure equal opportunity for all individuals regardless of race, ethnicity, color, creed, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, marital status, age, ancestry, disability, veteran status, national origin, sexual orientation or other protected status. In order to measure UW-L’s progress toward this goal, as required by law, the annual Affirmative Action Program provides comprehensive data on the diversity of UW-L faculty and staff in comparison to the population of people who are available and qualified in each job category. The publication of this data is intended to provide a means for the campus community to assess UW-L's diversification efforts and foster dialogue about further ways to enhance those efforts. UW-L’s affirmative action hiring practices are focused on seeking a diverse pool of applicants for each job opening and removing all forms of bias — intentional and unintentional — from the evaluation of those applicants, so that no individual receives any advantage or disadvantage based on race, ethnicity, gender or any other protected status. For more information, click www.uwlax.edu/affirmativeaction. To learn more about UW-L's efforts to ensure equal employment opportunity, contact Director of Affirmative Action Nizam Arain at narain@uwlax.edu.
