New student center furniture and theatre seating purchases — tell us what you think

Thanks to everyone who took the time to provide feedback in November and December regarding lounge furniture for the new student center. Thanks in advance for giving input again. During the winter break UW-L received new furniture samples. All of the new samples to be considered for the lounges are in the TV lounge area of the La Crosse Room — area across from the Cellar — in Cartwright Center. Let us know what you like by completing a ballot/survey in the TV lounge area. Voting ends at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13. Additionally, while you are in Cartwright, stop by the Information Counter to take a look at seating options for the theater to be located in the new student center. Take a moment to complete the survey to give your opinion regarding which seat you would prefer to see in this space. Increased heat results leads to increased water loss via sweat. What most people don't realize is that it's just as easy to become dehydrated during the winter months. Unlike summer, the heat is not around to remind us that we need to drink more water. The bottom line is that dehydration is always dangerous no matter what the season. After all, up to 60 percent of a person’s body weight is water and it only takes a 1 to 2 percent drop in that percentage to cause dehydration. Proper hydration is important for many reasons. Water creates saliva so that we can swallow food, lubricants for joints and tears for our eyes, eliminates waste of materials, circulates hormones, and assists with nutrients absorption and transportation. Without enough water, we can experience tiredness, headaches, lower levels of concentration and flushed skin. Sodexo’s Mindful program suggests getting your recommended nine to 13 cups of water by following these tips:
  • Drink small amounts of fluid often
  • Always have a water bottle with you
  • Eat foods rich in water content such as carrots, spinach, broccoli, apples and celery
  • Drink a variety of fluids — the more choices you have, the more you will tend to drink
  • Try flavored water or adding fresh fruit to your water
  • Don’t wait to feel thirsty — that means you are already dehydrated
  • Drink during mealtimes — it’s a great way to top off your fluid levels
For more information on proper winter hydration, check out the UW-L Dining kiosk outside Whitney Center.
