The open forums provide an opportunity for UW-L students, faculty and staff and La Crosse community members to learn about the initiative for UW-L becoming a tobacco-free campus, discuss pros and cons of becoming a tobacco-free campus and ask questions. Other open forum dates and locations are:
  • Tuesday, March 26, 10-11 a.m. in 339 Cartwright Center
  • Friday, March 29, 1-2 p.m. in 1400 Centennial Hall

Queer Cinema artwork. Endgame artwork.'Endgame: AIDS in Black America' discussion set for Feb. 27

“Today in America, 152 people will become infected with HIV,” a speaker is telling a World AIDS Day gathering as the program "Endgame: AIDS in Black America" opens. “Half of them will be black. Today in America, two-thirds of the new HIV cases among women will be black. Today in America, 70 percent of the new HIV cases among youth will be black.” "Endgame: AIDS in Black America" will be shown and discussed at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in 337 Cartwright Center. The program traces how AIDS was typecast as a disease of gay white men, even though some of the earliest cases were in black men. Indifference among blacks at the start of the epidemic, the drug nightmare of the 1990s with sex being traded for a fix, rampant needle sharing and resistance to needle-exchange programs, as well as endemic poverty in black America exacerbated the AIDS crisis. Learn more at this free Queer Cinema event.
